Terrell Powell

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

One of our favorite new artists featured at Poppy is Terrell Powell of Austin, TX. Barb and I met Terrell at the Plaza Art Fair in Kansas City, MO last year and knew immediately that his work belonged in Poppy. It’s very bright and whimsical and the subject matter tends to be animals, flowers, and houses…three of our favorite things. Terrell and his wife, Pat, joined us for the spring installation of Artrageous Fridays on April 25, 2008. It was great fun for us to watch him in action, painting pictures of Barb’s donkeys that he had observed earlier in the day. I think our customers enjoyed his presence as well. We continue to enjoy his work and can’t wait until Terrell and Pat’s next visit. -Liz

Here is a picture of Terrell with customers Dave and Mar Doering during Artrageous Friday.

Scuba Steve

Every once in a while a customer comes along that makes you smile. Even more rare are the customers that make you chuckle. Barb had the opportunity to work with “Scuba Steve,” who was decorating his bathroom with an underwater scene and was interested in some work by Ed Heck. Now I have seen some ocean themed bathrooms, but I have never seen anything like this one. It is always nice for us to see where our artwork ends up…it looks like Ed Heck’s “Big Fish, Little Fish” found the perfect home. Here are some images of “Scuba Steve’s” bathroom, along with captions–provided by “Scuba Steve” himself. Anchors away! -Liz

The idea of the bathroom is to feel like you are underwater. Looking up from the “seated” position, paper mache fish hanging from the ceiling.
