Something blue…

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Our very own Poppette, Angie Ellegood, is engaged to be married. The upcoming event has been the talk of the shop, and once again we are all in love with love. Barb was so thrilled that she brought in her very own wedding dress for Angie to try…which hadn’t been opened since 1969. We all adored Angie in this crisp, structured silhouette (be sure to check out the ladylike train-it’s detachable!).

Angie ended up buying a dress that was ultra-glamorous, but it was fun to see her in Barb’s. It would be bad luck to show you her dress before the wedding…so you’ll just have to wait until after January 3, 2009.

I was married May 1, 2004 in a dress that I bought while living in Nashville. It was strapless with a muted gold sash that tied at the waist and featured some gleamy embroidery. At the time it was the perfect dress, but if I had to do it all over again I would certainly choose a look that’s more me. Now I envision something more 70’s inspired, like this dress from www.jcrew.com.

I would add this Pearl and Leaf Line Necklace from Jamie Cassavoy (worn long) for a touch of gloss…

and these Forest Fawn Studs from Figs and Ginger, for an unexpected and playful counterpoint. In the meantime, we’ll play dress up with Angie. After all, she is quite a doll. -Liz

Spring cleaning

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Simply put, I am not a cleaner. I do not like to clean things. I would rather spend my free time practicing marching with my 17 month old son, searching for that perfect shade of red lipstick or pouring over the latest Anthropologie catalog. Unfortunately, I am an organizer. I adore calendars, highlighters, Pilot V-Ball Grip Extra Fine Black pens (ask my girls about this one) and any other product that will lead me to a more organized state of being. I spent my entire day off yesterday (okay, not the entire day…I had coffee downtown and then met a friend for a rather extended sushi lunch) organizing the house…which led to cleaning, which it turns out makes things appear more organized. After a satisfying dose of organizing and cleaning I sat down to look at one of my favorite tools of organization, the calendar. My calendar is a freebie from a jewelry rep that is filled with important meetings, payment due dates and friends’ birthdays. It is not pretty. Although it has a purpose, I couldn’t help but wish that I had a pretty calendar to keep me organized.

Sticks makes a perpetual calendar that is just really stunning. The months and dates can be traded out as needed, and it comes with special little pieces to commemorate holidays, birthdays and general good times. Although you should not highlight dates on this calendar with an actual highlighter, the arranging and re-arranging of the pieces is just as satisfying. I will most likely not give up my freebie calendar all together (the Sticks calendar is too big to take on the go, even in my bottomless purse), but I will add this pretty organizational tool to my now spotless dwelling. -Liz
